Project Description

• Creative Art Therapy is a project that familiarizes future physicians about the role of the arts and humanities with healing.

• Students will gain experience working with diverse patient populations and practice incorporating the arts and humanities as an adjunct in healing. 

 

Activities & Events

Yoga for Medical Students

Namaste.  Do you want to be a yogi?  Did you used to practice yoga before starting medical school or have you always wanted to try it?!  Contact IUSM-CAT to sign up for an all medical student Iyengar yoga class with Lorissa Byley, certified yoga instructor.  Classes start in the fall and spring and continue for approximately 8 weeks.

Past Events

• April 10, 2011: The IUSM Orchestra held a free concert at the Indiana Historical Society downtown. The program included Variations on  by Aaron Copland, Verdi's "Nabucco" Overture, and the show-stopping John Williams' "Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menance."  The orchestra also made its debut performance at the IUSM talent show, Evening of the Arts, which benefits free health clinics in the Indianapolis Community.

• November, 2010: World AIDS Day 2010: IUSM-CAT collaborated with the Global Health, Physician for Human Rights, and LGBT SIGs to coordinate a celebration of World AIDS Day on November 30, 2010.  The IUSM World AIDS Day Art Fest included an art gallery of work made by artists affected by HIV/AIDS along with live music by IUSM students.  IUSM-CAT coordinated an art therapy event where medical students painted a community mural with local artists and attendees of the World AIDS Day Fest.

• Tuesday, February 24th, 2009:  Lunch Talk with Liz Lerman (Art in Healing Initiative)

• Saturday, March 28th, 2009:  Launch/Art Party at Dr. Jeff Rothenberg's House

• In April or May, 2009:  Trip to Indiana Museum of Art (IMA) with a guided tour that focuses on art as healing and interpretation of art (Facilitated by Dr. Rothenberg)
